Dental Bonding
Teeth bonding is part of cosmetic and general dentistry that is fairly simple and is usually completed in one dental visit. For more information on teeth bonding please click here.
Crowns
A tooth that is damaged or has spaces that are cosmetic or functionally unpleasant can greatly benefit from crowns or bridges.
At Scottsdale Dentistry we provide beautiful natural looking crowns and bridges. These restorations no only restore function, but they are also very esthetic that we often use these products in cosmetic dental treatments. Dental crowns are used routinely in restorative and cosmetic dental treatment. Crowns are used to cover a tooth that is fractured from a breakage, severe decay, or to camouflage a discolored tooth as result of drug staining such as Tetracycline. Following root canals crowns are also highly recommended in order to reinforce the weak core structure of the tooth from the root canal therapy. A crown can alternatively be screwed or cemented over a dental implant to fill a space left by a missing tooth. Today the crowns that we use are made beautifully to blend with surrounding dentition. Please visit our Smile Makeover Gallery to see some examples of the aesthetic results some of our patients have enjoyed over the years at our office.
When a single tooth or even several teeth in a row are missing we often recommend a dental bridge should the patient opt out of dental implant surgery. Bridges attach to the teeth adjacent to missing space and the missing teeth are replaced by a porcelain piece known as a "pontic". Bridges can also be used to attach to two or more dental implants in order to fill the missing gap left from missing teeth. At our office we strive t to provide the best cosmetic and functional result. We provide attractive dental bridges that are functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Root Canal Therapy
Among the most common dental treatments is root canal treatment. Over 14 million root canals are completed every year by dentists. For most patients root canals sound like a nightmare, however the procedure is relatively simple and can save a tooth from needing a dental implant or a bridge. Every tooth has a housing known as a pulp which is a collection of blood vessels and nerve tissue which nourish the tooth. When a pulp becomes infected or inflamed from either trauma, decay, crack, etc a root canal is needed in order to relieve the symptoms associated. Symptoms of tooth infection can be identified as pain, swelling of the gums or face, sensitivity, or biting pain.
How is a Root Canal done?
The procedure is initiated by administration of local anesthesia. The inflamed pulp (nerve tissue) is removed and the root canal system is cleaned, disinfected and is sealed with special material known as gutta percha. Root canals have over 90% success rate and are usually completed in one or two visits. We sometimes use laughing gas to reduce anxiety for those patients fearful of dental treatment. Upon completion you will be able to drive home and can return to normal routine the next day. It is highly suggested for a root canal tooth (specially posterior teeth) to be covered by a crown to prevent further breakage and future infection.
